Today we surprised Spencer by giving him his class ring. He's been bugging us for quite some time asking when we could go pick it up from the jewelry store since it's been in for awhile. Little did he know that Malia and I went and got it a few weeks ago and had it hidden and waiting for the right moment to give it to him. Rick and I thought Thanksgiving time would be a good time.
Picking out this class ring was quite a learning process for Spencer. And, I must say, he took it very seriously. He initially wanted a gold ring with a ruby stone like his Grandpa Dewey. As you can see in the above picture, he got a silver ring with a sapphire stone. This change came about as he went through the grueling process of elimination. He spent a great deal of time looking through all the options in his order book, crossing out ones he definitely didn't want and putting a star by the ones that caught his eye. He then continued to eliminate until he was down to the style he liked. The clencher came at the jewelry store when he was able to try on the two that he'd like the most and was able to see what they looked like on his hand.
Needless to say, he is thrilled with his choice (even though his mother teases him about how much she likes it because it's Colt's colors and he's a Steelers fan). He couldn't stop smiling tonight. And we're so glad for him.

Way to go Spencer! What a handsome ring (for a handsome guy)! You did a great job deciding on all the different choices.
Love you bunches,
Grandma & Grandpa R
Nice looking ring, Spencer :)
