ASHERWOOD

Malia and I got out of the house this afternoon and went to an environmental science center. They have an aviary for injured birds, which houses two different types of hawks, two different types of owls, and one bald eagle.

We first stopped to look at the bald eagle. It was then that all of the birds got a taste of Malia's boisterous personality. Notice the bald eagle in the back of the cage with his back turned to us.

The story of this eagle is that he flew into a power line and injured his wing. When he cooperates and sits just right you can see the injury. Poor guy. Asherwood has been his home for many years.

After the eagle, we moved on to the hawks, and then the owls. The owls were my favorite. What interesting creatures!






Here is Malia watching the barred owl, while the barred owl watches her. She is just too cute in this picture.

And, then she sat down and started kicking the rocks. Go figure.

Once I got her up, we moved on to hike the deer trail down to the duck pond. On our journey we crossed a bridge. The creek was dry, unfortunately, so today's experience was minus the peaceful sound of running water.


The duck pond was green.

But, the yard beside it had a grassy hill that she loved running up and down.


All in all ... a very nice time.
