We began the day giving Father's Day gifts and love to Rick - one of the greatest Daddy's in the world. Spencer got him a Plus One CD, which Rick has been wanting to listen to. I got him the Cinderella CD by SCC. Rick loves that song. I'll tell you about Malia's gift at the end of this post.

We then headed to church to enjoy a morning of worship and fellowship. Afterwards, we went to Rick's parent's house for a cookout and fun with family. Here is a picture of four generations ... what a legacy!
Malia was funny to watch as she encountered her first toy movie projector. Here is Rick with the movie projector and Malia with hers (a plastic gun). Too funny.

Malia and Luke had fun playing underneath Grandma's glass-top coffee table.
After spending some time with Rick's family, we headed to my parent's house to spend time with my family. It was a great fun time and my brother had us laughing so hard we were all crying as he recounted days from our childhood. His version, of course, not the true version.
Okay, now on to Malia's first Father's Day present to her Daddy ...
The picture above is of Malia and Rick dancing. I found a book called "Dance Me, Daddy" by Cindy Morgan (who is a Christian singer/song writer). To my delight, included with the book was a CD with the song "King of the World" (written by C.M., sung by Point of Grace) that inspired the picture book. Let me just say that when I first listened to the song I bawled like a baby. The tears just wouldn't stop. I think the emotions of a long journey sometimes creep back to the surface and such thankfulness comes pouring out in raw emotion. But I digress ...
We had Rick listen to the song after we gave him his gifts and he picked Malia up and danced with her. What sweetness. I'll quickly share a story about Malia and her Daddy and dancing. Malia has a riding toy that plays music. One night she would push a button to make music play, run over by the front door and dance. As long as Rick was watching her she was happy, but if he wasn't she'd make noise to get his attention. She did this several times. So, finding the "Dance Me, Daddy" book was just perfect for this first Father's Day with our new daughter.
"King of the World"
Spinning around on the tops of his feet.
Smiles of the angels could not be so sweet.
Wide blue eyes and piggy tails swirl.
She's her daddy's girl.
'Cause he knows the jokes that always make her laugh.
Takes her for ice cream instead of her nap.
At the end of the day by the light of moon they turn up the music in their living room.
And she yells, "Dance me. Dance me around till my feet don't ever touch down.
There's nothing better than being your girl.
And if I am your princess then, Daddy, you are the King of the World."
It's funny how life moves in circles of time.
To think not so long ago that face was mine.
Houses get smaller, we take different names,
But some things in life stay the same.
Some day she'll go off and find a life of her own
And marry a good man and make a happy home.
Until she comes back and sees with those same eyes what time cannot disguise.
She walks through the door with that look on her face,
'Cause Daddy's brown hair has all turned to gray.
They talk for hours.
They cry and they laugh.
Watching old movies and thinking back.
Just as she turns to go, she says,
"Hey, Dad, how about one for the road?
"Dance me. Dance me around till my feet don't ever touch down.
Dance me. Dance me around till my feet don't ever touch down.
'Cause there's nothing better than being your girl.
Oh, no, there's nothing better than being your girl.
And if I am your princess then, Daddy, you are the King of the World, King of the World."
Spinning around on the tops of his feet.
Smiles of the angels could not be so sweet.
